LIEUTENANT GENERAL JAGDEEP KUMAR SHARMA RETIRES

Lieutenant General Jagdeep Kumar Sharma, AVSM, Chief of Staff (COS),  Central Command retired from service on 30 Apr 2019 after an illustrious career spanning around 37 years in the Army. He has been a hands on Commander and a true leader with extensive experience and has made notable contributions at tactical, operational and strategic levels during his service.

An alumnus of the Indian Military Academy, Lieutenant General Jagdeep Kumar Sharma is a highly decorated officer.

He was commissioned into the Mechanised Infantry Regiment in June 1982 and had the distinction of commanding the same battalion in a Strike Corps.

Lieutenant General Jagdeep Kumar Sharma, AVSM, Chief of Staff,   Central Command has participated in ‘Operation VIJAY’, ‘Operation MEGHDOOT’, ‘Operation TRISHUL SHAKTI’, ‘Operation ORCHID’ and ‘Operation PARAKRAM’ in various command and staff appointments. He attended all the prestigious professional courses of the Army including the prestigious National Defence College Course in Delhi.

Lieutenant General Jagdeep Kumar Sharma, took over as the Chief of Staff of Central Command on 27 May 2017. During his tenure as Chief of Staff, he gave an extra ordinary impetus to development of infrastructure in the entire Area of Responsibility covering seven states, including forward Areas. While exponentially enhancing the operational effectiveness of the Command simultaneously it gave a boost to the living standards, general well being and moral of the rank and file and their families.

His contribution in achieving jointmanship between the Army and Air Force has been outstanding. He also made notable contributions towards synergising joint civil military functioning especially to tide over the challenges faced during the various Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations.

The General Officer is a proud recipient of ‘Ati Vishisht Seva Medal’ for his significant contributions and dedicated service to the organisation and the Nation.
