LT. GEN. ABHAY KRISHNA PAYS HOMAGE TO THE MARTYRS ON ARMY DAY

Army Day was celebrated on 15 January 2019 in Lucknow with a solemn wreath laying ceremony in the morning at Smritika, the Central Command War Memorial at Lucknow Cantonment. On the occasion, Lieutenant General Abhay Krishna, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command along with serving officers and jawans laid the wreath in memory of all those brave martyrs who laid down their lives in the defence of the motherland. The last post was also sounded and a two minute silence was observed for peace of the departed souls.
As part of the celebrations, Central Command has also organized various events across the seven states of its Area of Responsibility. These events include Military Equipment Displays, Band Concerts and Mini Marathons being organized at different stations.
Army Day is celebrated on 15 January every year in recognition of Field Marshal KM Cariappa’s taking over as the first Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army from Sir Francis Butcher, the last British Commander, in 1949.
