MASS HEALTH EDUCATION PROGRAMME ORGANISED BY COLLEGE OF NURSING, COMMAND HOSPITAL, CENTRAL COMMAND LUCKNOW

Based on findings of a survey conducted by Trainee Nursing officers of College of Nursing, Command Hospital, Lucknow undergoing Rural Community Health Nursing experience at Pahadpur village, a mass health education programme was organised on 30 Dec 2018 with the theme “Hum Sabka Ek Hai Naara, Swach Awam Swasth Gaon Ho Hamara”.



The focus of the programme was environmental sanitation.  Towards this a puppet show on women empowerment and a play depicting harmful effects of alcoholism on personal and social well being of individual and family were also organised. Stalls were also established to generate awareness about various health schemes launched by the State Government especially addressing the girl child.


During the outreach programme which commenced on 05 Nov 2018, the trainees conducted a survey covering 170 houses with a population of 1064. The major health problems identified in the community were hypertension, diabetes, anaemia among adolescent group, filariasis and other vector borne diseases.  Consumption of tobacco and tobacco products with alcoholism was the major (78%) alarming behavioural problem found amongst the villagers. In addition a School Health Assessment was also conducted at Pahadpur Prathamik Vidhyalaya and Poorva Madhyamik Vidhyalaya for 139 students consisting of 48 boys and 88 girls. Majority of the school children were observed to have poor personal hygiene with lice infestation (44%) and ear infections (64%). Interactive sessions on menstrual hygiene was also conducted in the school to generate awareness.


The event was graced by Brig RDS Ahluwalia, Dean & Deputy Commandant Command Hospital, Brig Manoj Bhatt, Principal Matron, Command Hospital, Central Command.  The programme was supported by Dr. SP Patel, Professor, Department of Community medicine, KGMU and Incharge of Rural Health & Training Centre (RHTC) Sarojini Nagar and Mrs. Pinki Singh, Gram pradhan, Pahadpur village.
