ASEAN DEFENCE MINISTERS MEETING PLUS EXPERT WORKING GROUP IN LUCKNOW

10th ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting plus Expert Work Group on Military Medicine being co-chaired by India and Myanmar will be held in Lucknow from 2nd to 5th December 2018 at Headquarters Central Command. The objectives of this cycle are to establish better co-operation in medical operations amongst ASEAN (Indonesia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Brunei) and ASEAN Plus countries (United States, Russia, China, Australia, Japan and South Korea) for civil support by Military Operations other than War (MOOTW) especially Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Response missions. The event will be conducted under the aegis of Headquarters Central Command. AMC Centre and College, Lucknow is assigned to conduct technical aspects of the Exercise and to host the foreign delegates.
The event will have simultaneous sessions on Expert Working Group on Military Medicine, 4th bilateral talks between India and Myanmar, Table Top Exercise and planning for Field training Exercise encompassing the broad themes. Eminent experts in the field of military medicine will deliver the key note address and plenary talks. The conduct of these events is also an important step to uphold the values of Peace, Prosperity and Trust in the region. It is anticipated that approximately 50 delegates from various countries and soldiers from Army Medical Corps would be participating in the event.
The central theme of the event is towards establishing preparedness and response mechanisms to manage mass causalities and outbreak of infectious disease resulting from large scale disasters as also to facilitate synergy, better understanding, increase capability of the combined operations amongst the Armed Forces of ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Plus countries. It will go a long way towards evolving and institutionalising military forum for regional cooperation in military medicine. It will also enhance military to military interoperability, co-ordination and cooperation to the next level by participating in a Military medicine theme based Exercise.
