10TH ASEAN DEFENCE MINISTER MEETING PLUS EXPERT WORKING GROUP ON MILITARY MEDICINE AT SURYA COMMAND
The conclave of ASEAN Defence Ministers and the Expert Working Group commenced on 03 Dec 2018 at Headquarters Central Command,Lucknow. The days proceedings started with an address from Major General Rajat Datta, Major General (Medical) welcoming the visiting dignitaries followed by a key note address by Dy Commandant & Chief Instructor of AMC&C highlighting the importance of Standard Operating Procedures for ASEAN countries in handling disasters & mass casualty management.
The representatives of the chair country Myanmar and other ASEAN countries also deliberated upon the proposed work plan for the upcoming Field Training Exercise scheduled in Mar 2019. In addition the experiences of Operation Samudra Maitri, a Joint operation conducted by India and Indonesia while jointly managing disaster at Indonesia were also discussed .The representative of ASEAN Centre of Military Medicine presented the ACMM perspective on development of Military Medicine followed by a presentation on a handbook of Military Medicine and chapterisation delivered by Colonel RK Bhalla, Colonel Medical from Directorate General Armed Forces Medical Services.
The event concluded with a cultural evening with dance performances by renowned dance groups which provided the International delegates with a glimpse of rich culture and heritage of Uttar Pradesh. The cultural programme was organized by AMC Centre & College in cooperation with UP State ministry of Culture and Tourism.
Such conclaves help in strengthening and synergising the approach of Armed Forces and Civil Administration towards quick rescue operations, mass casualty management and the much needed humanitarian assistance during such catastrophe
