Lecture on the immunity of pregnant women held in Shia PG College

Health of pregnant women is a global concern for health care providers and policy makers. Considering the significance of this pertinent problem, an invited lecture on 'Immunity during Pregnancy' was organized by the Department of Zoology, Shia PG College on November 6, 2024. The lecture was planned as part of and to conform with Mission Shakti initiative of the state government. The lecture was delivered by Prof Sher Ali, an eminent immunologist of international repute who has held key positions at National Institute of Immunology (New Delhi), Jamia Millia Islamia (New Delhi), and Integral University (Lucknow). He is currently working as the Dean, Research and Development at Era University, Lucknow.
The distinguished speaker was felicitated by Moulana Yasoob Abbas, and Moulana Ejaz Athar in the Zoology auditorium. Prof Syed Shabihe Raza Baqri (Principal, Shia PG College) introduced the topic in his welcome address highlighting the efforts made by the college in catering to empower women through a spectrum of activities. Prof Sher Ali delivered a memorable lecture focusing on key physiological mechanisms that modulate the innate and adaptive immune responses of pregnant women in accordance with the requirements of growing foetus. He elaborated on cellular and molecular regulators implicated in dealing with the foetal enigma while ensuring its normal development. Prof TS Naqvi (Head, Department of Zoology) presented the vote of thanks. The session was attended by a large number of undergraduate and postgraduate students of Zoology. Prof AP Masih, Prof Sadiq Abbas, Prof Afroz Zareen Athar, Dr Syed Faiz Mujtaba, Dr Kumar Gaurav Bajpai, Dr Nikhil Srivastava, Dr Hasan Mehdi, Prof Mirza Sibtain Beg, Dr Sarwat Taqi, Dr Tazeem and Dr Mazhar Mehdi Ajeet Singh were also present in the audience.
