ARMED FORCES VETERANS DAY CELEBRATION AT LUCKNOW

The Armed Forces Veterans Day was celebrated across the nation on 14 Jan 2019. Similarly to commemorate the occasion, various events were organised at Lucknow under the aegis of Headquarters Central Command.
The celebrations commenced with a wreath laying ceremony being organised at “Smritika War Memorial” to pay tribute to the fallen brethren who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. Major General Pravesh Puri, General Officer Commanding, Madhya Uttar Pradesh Sub Area paid his tributes on behalf of all the serving soldiers. The veterans were represented by Lieutenant General AM Verma (Retired), Lieutenant General LV Pandey (Retired), Vice Admiral Sujan Singh (Retired) and Air Vice Marshal RK Dixit (Retired). The ceremony was attended by approximately 400 veterans and all serving personnel posted in Lucknow station.
Post the ceremony a special tea was organised for all veterans. The celebrations concluded with a Band Symphony organised at Army Medical Corps Centre & College. Lieutenant General Abhay Krishna, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Central Command graced the event.
The day is celebrated as a mark of respect and recognition of the services rendered by Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, the first Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, who retired from service on 14 January 1953.
